"Shield of Pain": the title of Judas Priest's tour already got fans excited in Clisson on June 21st for a Fête de la Musique celebrating the 35th anniversary of the cult album Painkiller. The band had promised "an unforgettable experience for defenders of the metal faith," and the legendary "priests" from Birmingham didn't need long to send their followers into a trance. A deluge of decibels (and studs on biker jackets), a festival of flames, furious guitar solos from the duo Andy Sneap and Richie Faulkner, and the inimitable, powerful voice straight from the white beard of singer Rob Halford... the British heavy metal gods—nearly 50 million albums sold worldwide!—more alive than ever, set Hellfest ablaze. Alternating between iconic tracks—"Turbo Lover," "Breaking the Law," "Panic Attack," and of course, "Painkiller"—and more recent ones, with their ever-electrifying riffs, a breathtaking grand mass, also performed by Ian Hill (bass), Scott Travis (drums), and Richie Faulkner (guitar). Invincible for over half a century, like the shield on their latest album.
